Department of Physics and Electronics, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Bangalore Central Campus, established in 1969, is a distinguished center for academic and research excellence. With modern classrooms, advanced laboratories, and accomplished faculty, the department actively advances research in condensed matter physics, materials science, astrophysics, and nuclear physics. It offers a robust program in Astronomy and Astrophysics, integrating theoretical and observational approaches. In 2024, the department inaugurated the Centre of Excellence in Astronomy and Astrophysics, by Prof. R. Srianand (Director, IUCAA). The department was recognised as an IUCAA Centre for Astronomy Research & Development (ICARD) in 2022. Each year, the department trains 40–50 undergraduates and 20–25 postgraduates in specialised areas like cosmology and data handling. Through regular seminars, workshops, and collaborations with leading institutions, the department provides a dynamic platform for learning, research, and scientific exchange in physics, astronomy, and cosmology.
At CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Bangalore, cosmology is not just a subject; it's a journey through the universe. With active involvement in prestigious international collaborations like LIGO-India and the Square Kilometre Array (SKA), and backed by a team of expert researchers, the Department of Physics and Electronics offers students the unique opportunity to engage in groundbreaking cosmological research right from the heart of one of India’s leading scientific hubs.
